How lovely to have the lighter evenings now that the clocks have been changed! Sunshine, and spring flowers certainly lift the spirits, and we all look forward to a good season of croquet We are grateful to Bob for continuing as Chairman for another year and welcome John Roberts as a new Committee member.
It has been good to meet together through the winter at Coffee mornings, and our thanks to all those who hosted them- it's great to keep in touch in this way.
Our thanks to those who attended the Pegging Out party, and especially to the gentlemen who by tradition provided the refreshments. The photograph in your printed newsletter shows Bob, Eddie, and Brian, the winners of the South West Federation Golf Finals.
We would like to take this opportunity to welcome lan Clifton as our new President, and to say how pleased we are that he feels able to help us in this way.
We would also like to say a big 'Thank you' to Alien Backway our retiring President for all that both he and Mary have done for the Club. They were both involved from the very beginning, and Alien was instrumental in purchasing the main club house and very much the guiding hand in erecting the building. He was also the first Club Chairman, a job which involves a great deal of commitment, patience and fortitude. Mary has also been very involved helping to organise barbecues, competitions, fund raising and Ladies days. Alien is now well into his nineties, and both he and Mary have suffered health problems over the last few years. As much as they would like to remain actively committed to the club, the time has come for them to ease back. Thank you both for all your hard work, we shall miss you, but hope you may be able to join us for the occasional social event. The picture in your printed newsletter shows Alien opening the new annexe.

Hartley Shield (Association Croquet Doubles)- Monday 29th August.
It is important that you watch the Notice Board in case there are any changes to these dates as lawns will not be available to club members during these matches.
The dates and venues of the League matches will be posted on the Notice Board by Team Captains.
Help will be needed to provide teas for home matches, so please put your name down to help, and maintain Plymouth's tradition for delicious teas.
If you have not yet paid your subscription, now is the time to do it.
Full membership £70, Country £60, Social £5.
Cheques made payable to: Plymouth Croquet Club and sent to-the Treasurer.
