NEWSLETTER - APRIL 2004

At last the long dark evenings are over and winter is behind us. What a pleasure to see the lovely spring flowers and hear the birds singing. Thoughts turn now to sunny days (we hope) playing croquet. Our thanks to those who have helped us keep in touch over the winter by organising coffee mornings- they were very much enjoyed by all who attended. Thanks are also due to those who have been working hard to get the lawns, clubhouse etc ready for the season to begin.

As most of you will know, there are some changes this year, and we welcome Bob Savage as our new Chairman, thanking John for all his work over the last two years. We are also very grateful to Iris who has retired after four busy years as our secretary.

Sadly both Gerry Barker and Joan Anderson have died during the winter. Both have served the club in different ways over the years, and we shall miss them. Joan's enthusiasm has continued right into her nineties, and Gerry has been involved in a number of different ways. To quote John in his obituary in the February Croquet Gazette- 'Gerry was such an interesting, warm-hearted and friendly person, it was a joy to know him'. There is a copy of this magazine in the Clubhouse if you would like to read it. Those of you who have been long-standing members of the club will have your own memories of Joan.

Please send your competition entries to Marjorie, and if you have not yet paid your subscription, now is the time to do it.

Full membership £70   Country £60    Social £5.

Cheques made payable to: `Plymouth Croquet Club' and send to the Treasurer.
