It seems like a moment ago that I was wishing you all a happy and successful croquet season. How time flys. Summer has gone, along with it the long bright sunny days and evenings. It's back to the fire and a good book. Did I hear someone say Christmas Shopping? May I on your behalf say thank you to the gentlemen for providing a delicious tea for all of us to enjoy. Well done men!! A big thank you to all the ladies who provide teas during the season for league matches, friendly matches, tournaments and on club days. With-out your help the club would not be such a jolly place. Nothing like a cup of tea a friendly smile and a chat.

He came away with an impressive trophy and also a cash prize!!!!! Well done Alan! Drinks on the house???? South West Golf Croquet Finals Eddie Schaffert (our treasurer) won the

THANK YOU A great amount of time and energy goes into organising all these matches and tournaments held at the club. Very many thanks to John Shepherd for his dedication to the job of tournament secretary. Mary Backway and Margaret Roberts have for many years now organised Ladies Days which include a plough-mans lunch. These days are greatly appreciated by the Ladies who attend, the croquet may not be great but the roars of laughter floating across the lawns speak volumes. Thanks to Syd and Marion for the Golf Tournament which they organise every year - as well as croquet this in-cludes a scrumptious tea. Last but not least a big thank-you to Geoff Underwood for making the friendly with Budleigh such a success. |

VAL DAMPNEY J. P. Sadly Val died on the 15th June, 2001. She was a loyal member of the dub and will be sadly missed. Val was a founder member of the croquet dub. In the early days Allen (Backway) who was Chairman, found himself without a secretary. The person who took on the post left rather suddenly. Val and Margaret went to a meeting and Allen said to Val, "Please be our secretary." Val being Val could not refuse and Margaret being Margaret said she would help. A case of being in the wrong place at the right time! Thus the club was served with two excellent secretaries. When Allen retired from the Chairmanship Val stepped in and was the Chairman for many years. Not only did Val serve on the committee but she took an active interest in the dub, attend-ing and arranging many functions. Supporting teams playing at home and away. Indeed I can remember Val and Margaret arriving at the venue of many away matches to cheer the team along. She enjoyed a good game at social level but her handicap never decreased. It's the taking part that counts. A dear friend to all who knew her. VAL'S MALLET Val's mallet has been given to Alan (Newman) by her sister
Rhona. |
